Good morning!

It’s Adriana Peralta here with your morning newsletter! Today is Wednesday, Feb. 25. Thanks for tuning in!

I started working at the Bulletin in the fall as copy editor. I’m a sophomore here at ESU and secondary education major with a focus in English. I really enjoy watching movies and playing video games in my free time, my favorites of which are The Matrix and Bloodborne, respectively.

I find that writing can be an amazing outlet to discover both new things about each other and uncover old things we’ve forgotten about. It can be such a unique piece of our culture as humans and it all starts with journalism. That’s why I got involved with journalism when I was in high school and why I’m still writing today.

Students taking Painting I at Emporia State during the fall 2025 semester teamed up with students from Emporia High School taking Intro to Drawing and Painting to paint and draw portraits of one another.

Despite eleven made threes from Newman University, the Lady Hornets let the Jets get ahead in a 71-59 Hornet win on Saturday at White Auditorium.

‘Art explains you’: Black Student Union Artist Showcase spotlights change, expression and community

Current and former students gathered on Feb. 18 to take part in the Black Student Union Artist Showcase. The event, held each year, spotlights various Black students and artists who want to display their talents.

Agbokpah leads Hornets at Northwest Tune Up

Emporia State Track and Field saw another addition to the record list, key times and personal bests as the Hornet men and women competed at the Northwest Tune Up in Maryville, Missouri on Thursday, Feb. 19.

ESU Day of Giving more than triples previous donation record

Emporia State raised a record-breaking $321,049.63 in its fifth annual Day of Giving. The amount tops the $99,000 in donations ESU received in 2025.

I read over Kansas’ bathroom bill so you don’t have to

On Feb. 18, the Republican supermajority of the Kansas House overrode Governor Laura Kelly’s veto on a piece of legislation that will effectively prohibit transgender Kansans from using the bathroom that aligns with their gender identity and expression.

Can’t spell ‘independence’ without ‘dependence’

A big thing that people associate with college is the concept of independence;you’re on your own for the very first time in your life.

Officer responded to 4th Trusler for a reported odor of marijuana. The source was not located.

Feb. 23

Officer responded to Memorial Union for report of individual entrapped in elevator. EFD also responded. All elevators in MU were checked and no one was found to be entrapped. All elevators appeared to be functioning properly. Report taken. Case closed.

Feb. 22

Officer initiated a traffic stop in the 1700 block of Morse Dr. Officer stopped two subjects on scooters who chose to ride through three stop signs without stopping. Subjects were educated on following the traffic laws to not receive a citation.

Officer responded to Schallenkamp Hall for accidental elevator emergency button activation.

Feb. 21

Officer responded to Memorial Union cafeteria for report of a seizure. Subject refused EMS transport. Report taken. Case closed.

Officer initiated traffic stop at E 15th Ave and Market St. Citation given for failure to obey stop sign. Report taken. Case closed.

Feb. 20

Officer was contacted, by phone, by an individual reporting a threat made to them. An informational report was completed.

Feb. 15 marks the 93rd birthday of Corky the Hornet, Emporia State’s beloved mascot who debuted in 1933 as the mascot of Kansas State Teachers College.
