Midweek Mashup

The Bulletin | Voice of the students since 1901

Good morning!

It’s Isabel here with your morning newsletter! Today is Wednesday, April 22. Thanks for tuning in!

On April 12 and 13, three of our staff members attended the Kansas Collegiate Media Conference at Wichita State University.

We attended workshop sessions to help improve our reporting, learned more about using vertical video and met with other staff members from universities around the state. We also came home with a few awards! I won third place in feature writing for a story published last April over the campus prairie restoration. Editor-in-chief Maddie Carr won second place in profile writing for her profile on David Garlock. Overall, The Bulletin placed second in overall newspaper publication and fourth in digital publications, both out of all four-year public universities who submitted to the categories.

We also earned some big awards in the Kansas Press Associations’s Awards of Excellence contest. In our division, I won first place in best environmental story for the same campus prairie restoration coverage. Maddie placed first in sports story for coverage last February on a former women’s head basketball coach who was accused of verbal abuse by a former player and staff member.

We are so proud of our staff and all of the hard work everyone has put in to be the best publication we can be.

Enough about us… onto the important stuff!
